How we source flavor notes
My Farmers Coffee is a discovery marketplace, not a cupping lab. Flavor notes you see on a coffee page are sourced — and we tell you where from. This page explains the priority order we follow and how to flag an entry you think is wrong.
Source priority (highest to lowest)
- Independent third-party review. A specific lot reviewed on r/coffee, r/espresso, Coffee Review, Sprudge, or a comparable public source. When this exists we use it and link to the source.
- Roaster's official tasting notes. The notes the roaster publishes on the product page itself. Authoritative for the lot, but written by the seller. Linked to the product page.
- Indicative — pending review. For very limited or brand-new microlots with no third-party coverage and where we have not yet verified against a live roaster page, we publish a plausible profile inferred from origin, variety, and process. These are clearly marked as indicative on the card and the detail page, with a link to the roaster's page so you can verify.
What you see on the site
- On a coffee card, an indicative tag appears next to the flavor chips when the profile is in tier 3.
- On a coffee detail page, the flavor-notes block always shows a source line: a linked third-party review, a link to the roaster's tasting notes, or an "indicative — pending review" label with a link to the source URL.
Why we publish indicative notes at all
A blank flavor section is worse for discovery than a clearly-labelled inference. The single-farm coffees we cover are often released in batches of a few hundred bags, sell out quickly, and never get a public review by name. Hiding the profile would push you back to the roaster's site without any flavor signal. We'd rather give you a starting point and be honest about its provenance.
Flag an inaccurate entry
If a flavor profile on this site looks wrong, especially if you've tasted the coffee yourself or you're the roaster, please send us a note with the coffee URL and what should be changed. We update entries fast.
